Happy Guy Fawkes day!!
I didn’t know who Guy Fawkes was until I saw the movie V for Vendetta, and truthfully, that is still where most of my knowledge of him comes from. But I’m a film student, and we’ve discussed before how much movies influence my thinking.
I love is the idea that someone tried to be heard. He may have done it radically, but sometimes that’s the only way to be heard. Voice is every person’s first and best power. It shouldn’t be dismissed.
In celebration of Guy Fawkes, there were several fireworks shows tonight, which I watched from atop Calton Hill:
It’s been said that England celebrates Guy Fawkes Day because he failed to blow up Parliament. And Scotland celebrates it because he tried. But trying is the important part, because:
Our integrity sells for so little, but it is all we really have. It is the very last inch of us. But within that inch we are free.
Truth and integrity. You are born with both. If you lock one in your heart, you will be compelled to give out the other. You can choose which, but in one equation, both are lost, and in the other, both are strengthened. It is always your choice.
